What is CNAE?

National Classification of Economic Activities

CNAE (Clasificación Nacional de Actividades Económicas) is the official Spanish system that groups business activities into homogeneous sectors. It is assigned by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) and is mandatory for all companies.

What is CNAE used for?

The CNAE code identifies a company's main activity. It is used in tax filings, official statistics, sector analysis and competitor research.

CNAE code structure

The CNAE-2009 code has 4 digits. The first two identify the sector (division), the third the group and the fourth the activity class. For example, code 6209 corresponds to «Other information technology and computer service activities».
